Tips For Getting Your Best Beauty Sleep
Tips for Beauty Sleep
You've probably heard how important it is to get 8 hours of sleep every night, but do you know why this set amount of time is so crucial to our well being? Lack of sleep can wreak havoc on your body because the body and mind heal and rest when we sleep. Inadequate sleep patterns can have negative effects in memory, metabolism, organ function and mental health. We're all guilty of binge watching a TV show or hanging out with our friends into the late hours of the night. There's nothing wrong with wanting to stay up late once in a while. The real issue is when it becomes an everyday routine; that's when you know it's time to change your habits.
You may be thinking right now that it's impossible for you to get those 8 hours of sleep and that your mind has a hard time shutting down at night. Luckily, there are ways to help you reach that deep sleep that your body and mind so desperately need. Read on and learn to embrace and prioritize your beauty sleep. Your body and mind will thank you.
There's nothing more relaxing than a nice warm bath before bedtime, it helps soothe your muscles and gets you in the mood for sleep. Even if you are a daytime bath person, adding a nightly bath session will help you achieve the sleep you want and need. I like to use scented bubble bath with relaxing scents like bergamot or chamomile; not only do they smell amazing, they also have therapeutic effects! Make sure to breathe in the scent deeply and exhale slowly to get the maximum benefits from these aromatherapy products. If you're feeling more tired than usual, place some cooled cucumber slices on your eyes or in a pinch, apply a nice cold compress instead.
Facial and Head Massage
Usually when one thinks of a massage, one immediately imagines a full body rub down, but few think of the amazing benefits that a facial and head massage can bring. Giving yourself a scalp massage will help you relax before bed; pair it with a facial massage and not only will you sleep quicker and more soundly, you'll look younger too! That's because facial massage improves the circulation in your face, helping minimize wrinkles and under eye bags. Just apply a little of your favorite oil (my HG facial oil is ISA Professional's Extra Virgin Argan Oil) and feel the stress melt away.
Block All Light Sources
One of the worst things you can do when it's time to go to sleep is let any light filter into your bedroom. Light affects your sleeping cycle, even after you've fallen asleep! Chances are, you probably have light sources in your room that you never thought were an issue and now is the time to fix that. Get rid of any digital clocks since these are lit; if you must sleep with one, then face it away from your bed. Invest in thick curtains for your windows so that no outside light filters through. Start using a sleeping mask to really get the most out of your beauty sleep; they may take time to get used to but believe me, they are worth it! Not only will you fall asleep quicker, you will also go into REM sleep faster, helping you get up refreshed and ready to take on the day.
