DIY Fruity Hair Masks That Moisturize and Smell Like A Dream

DIY Hair Masks

While going shopping to the store can be extremely fun and satisfying as you walk around the aisles and compare different products against each other, there are cheaper alternatives when it comes to your beauty care. I am a huge DIY advocate when it comes to beauty treatments and hair masks are one of my absolute favorites to make. Hair masks are a cheap, efficient way to give your hair some much needed TLC and the ones made with fruit smell sooo good, you really have to try these!

One of the perks of using fruit on your hair is that these masks are more efficient when the fruit is very ripe (not ideal for eating). So whenever you have some fruit left over that you didn't get to eat in time, instead of throwing it out, you can use it for your hair! Hair masks make your hair more manageable and soft, so combing and styling time is much shorter. Just make sure to shampoo and rinse your hair extremely well after applying these and before styling! I prefer to use ISA Professional's digital flat iron after applying any of these masks; it allows me to control the pure ceramic plates temperature, leaving my hair looking super smooth and straight, without any heat damage.

The hair masks' efficiency is obvious by how soft and healthy my hair looks afterwards; give some of these a chance and let me know how they worked for your hair and wallet!

Avocado Mask

Avocado

Avocados are well known to be highly beneficial to beauty routines; this is because avocados are high in Vitamin E and B, making them great for moisturizing skin and hair. Avocados are also rich in oil, making it ideal for those who want their hair to have a natural shine. Mash a whole ripe avocado until it's as smooth as you can make it. Mix a teaspoon of almond oil to the smooth avocado and apply the mixture to your hair, concentrating on your roots first. Wear a shower cap and let sit for 30 minutes to let it take effect. Shampoo, condition and rinse well. Style as usual.

Banana Mask

Banana

Bananas have high levels of potassium which are great for dry, damaged hair. Bananas also have Vitamins B, C and E, which help repair broken and split ends. This mask is ideal for those with color treated hair, since dyes leave hair dull and dry and the banana mask helps hydrate those colored locks. Mash a very ripe banana until it's a smooth consistency and add a teaspoon of almond oil to the mixture. Apply the mixture to hair, concentrating on your roots and split ends, wear a shower cap and let sit from 20-30 minutes. Shampoo, condition and rinse well. Style as usual.

Peach Mask

Peaches and Yogurt

Peaches are great to treat an itchy or dry scalp. Since peaches have Vitamin A, C and B, it's great for cleaning your scalp and treating your roots. Peach hair masks will allow your hair to be hydrated and healthily. Mash 2 ripe peaches until it's a smooth consistency. Mix in a cup of yogurt and apply on your hair, concentrating on your roots. Put on shower cap and let it sit for 20 minutes. Shampoo, condition and rinse well. Style as usual.

Strawberry Mask

Strawberries

Strawberries are great for your hair, it leaves it with less frizz and more shine due to its high content of Vitamin C. For this you will need a handful of ripe strawberries (enough to cover roots and most of your hair), mash or blend them well and mix in 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 egg yolk. Apply on your hair, concentrating on roots, wear shower cap and let sit for 20 minutes. Shampoo, condition and rinse well. Style as usual.

How Dry Shampoo Can Save You Work and Time

Dry Shampoo to Save Time

Wide Tooth Comb For Distributing Hair Product Evenly ISA Professional

I admit that even though I try to keep my hair healthy and frizz free, I also have hectic days that give me almost no time to spend in front of the mirror before heading out into the world. Depending on when you last washed your hair, you may need something to help during these moments as well. Environmental elements leave a lot of dirt built up in your hair, which also weighs your hair down, making your hair look limp and dirty. I decided to give dry shampoo a chance and I have to say, it works wonders when you need your hair to look refreshed in a hurry. Keep in mind that this is not necessary for daily use, it's more for those days you have to skip washing your hair and want it to look and smell great anyway.

Brunette Applying Dry Shampoo To Get Rid Of An Oily Scalp ISA Professional

Application

Something to remember about dry shampoo is that you need to have a light hand when applying it, this is not a hair spray you would use liberally to make your look stay in place. Dry shampoo is best used on greasy roots since it takes away that unwanted greasy shine giving your roots a clean look and feel, without the need for water. It absorbs the oil on your scalp, not your hair, so there's no need to worry about it taking away the natural oils that are good for your hair. If you suffer from dandruff or if your scalp doesn't produce much oil, then dry shampoo is not recommended.

Woman Using Dry Shampoo Powder To Treat An Itchy Scalp ISA Professional

I usually spray 2 very short bursts on my roots and then comb it through, so it goes on evenly on my hair. I have friends who prefer to gently pat it in, since combing it leaves residue on their hair so that's another option if you have the same problem. If you feel like you used too much, just keep combing your hair from roots to end until most of it is absorbed and you don't see any residue. Try to always be on the conservative side and don't overdo it.

Do not apply dry shampoo on wet hair, it only works on completely dry hair. After doing my research and trying a few out, I now use Nexxus Youth Renewal Rejuvenating Dry Shampoo and it works great on my color treated hair.

Styling

If you have bangs like me, you know how hard it is to keep them dry and oil free from all the sweat on your forehead throughout the day. Instead of regretting your decision to get bangs, dry shampoo and a flat iron will make you love them. This is why even if I am in a hurry, I always use my Mirror Titanium Digital Flat Iron by ISA Professional to quickly straighten them and then apply my dry shampoo immediately after. This helps my newly straightened bangs from curling or separating all day, making those 5 minutes of my day crucial and always well spent.

Dry shampoos are great at helping you get on with your day, while looking refreshed, with very little effort.

Make Your Hair Color Last Longer With These Anti Fading Tips

Longer Lasting Hair Color

color application

Fading is something that anyone who colors or highlights their hair worries about. You love going to the salon and getting that perfect color combination on your locks but are then disappointed when it starts to fade. You wish you could keep your color looking as perfect as day one for as long as possible but fading is something that will eventually occur. Since your hair has to be stripped before permanent coloring, post-color care is crucial to lessen the effects of fading and will determine how long your hair color can last. These tips will help you space out your salon appointments for longer and keep your hair color looking great all year long.

hat protection

Sun Damage

The sun can be a big culprit in fading your hair, it can overly lighten or add brassiness to your hair color. If you plan to go to the beach, make sure you cover your hair up with a hat. If you plan to go to the pool, it makes it trickier since the chlorine can be even more damaging to your color than the sun! I try to keep my hair far away from pools unless I have an appointment with my color stylist in the near future; no one wants chlorine damage to ruin their hair color. That's because blond hair and highlights can turn green from exposure to the chlorine. So unless you don't mind swimming in the pool without getting your hair wet, I'd stay away from pools if you don't have a hair appointment in the near future.

shampooing

Shampoo

Another big color fading culprit is over-shampooing. Shampooing swells up the hair follicles and allows the color pigments to be washed away, leading to quick fading. I'm not suggesting that you never shampoo your hair again (although I've heard some people who swear by it), I'm simply suggesting not washing your hair everyday. I usually wash my hair twice a week and my hair color stays bright and true for longer thanks to it. When you have just finished color treating your hair, try not to wash it for as long as possible; this will give the pigments more time to settle into the hair, making it harder for fading to occur.

If you can stand the thought of shampooing with cold water, do so as well. Hot water makes it easier for color to seep out, it doesn't have to be freezing, but it can't be hot. You should also invest in a shampoo specifically designed for treated hair, it will greatly help delay fading. There are plenty of shampoos to choose from, as always: do your research before you buy to make sure it's right for your hair type and specific color.

Styling Tools

After making sure your hair is looking nice and bright, the next step is to ensure that you don't over dry your hair by using heat styling tools incorrectly. Color treating takes a toll on your hair and adding heat can be tricky if you don't want your locks to suffer heat damage and breakage. I like to protect my hair by applying a heat protecting spray before using my Victorya flat iron by ISA Professional. It protects my hair follicles and color, leaving my hair smooth, shiny and colorful. Afterwards, I like to apply 100% argan oil to ensure a frizz free head of hair and absolutely love how it looks all day long. Color treated hair looks amazing as long as you know how to protect it from fading; now get to it!

Is Co-Washing aka The No-Shampoo Method Right For You?

Is No Shampoo for You ?

While co-washing is not a new concept, it has recently become more mainstream among many hair beauty seekers.

What exactly is co-washing? It's an abbreviated term for conditioner only washing, by completely ditching shampoo altogether. While some refuse to put down the shampoo, the no-poo movement has many benefits for your hair; it just depends on your hair type. If you are a firm believer of shampooing your hair every day (or many days a week), this process may seem insane to you. I'm here to help you understand just what co-washing does for your hair and whether or not your hair type is suitable for this technique.

What is co-washing and does it benefit your hair type?

Co-washing is ideal for those with dry, damaged, curly, wavy or thick, textured hair. This is because shampoos have harsh chemicals that work to clean all the environmental buildup in your hair, which then causes it to be weighed down and feel frizzy. By skipping the shampoo, you are allowing your hair's natural oils to accumulate, giving your hair a nice, manageable feel. Co-washing is also ideal for those with color treated hair, because the less you wash your hair with shampoo, the less your color will fade away. Less visits to the salon and skipping the shampoo while shopping will save you a lot of money in the long run, too! Who should skip co-washing? Anyone with an oily scalp or those with fine, very straight hair. This is because the natural oils will make your hair look even flatter and feel heavy; co-washing doesn't help treat an oily scalp either.

Conditioner Tips

Now that we got the basics out of the way, let's talk conditioner. You have to remember that co-washing means using a LOT more conditioner than you're used to. There are a good range of conditioners out there that are silicone free that won't break the bank. Do your research, depending on your hair type and scent preferences. Another option is to use a cleansing conditioner; these are especially useful because you skip the part where your hair has to get accustomed to not getting any more shampoo, which leaves you with very oily hair in the beginning of the process.

Cleansing conditioners have a slight amount of product that cleans your hair without stripping it, leaving you with hydrated, non oily hair. Make sure to use a wide tooth comb to distribute it evenly in the shower. If you have very dry, thick or curly hair, leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse; if you have wavy or fine hair, leave on for 5 minutes and then rinse.

But Wait...

While some women swear by never letting their hair touch shampoo, I feel my hair still needs a bit of shampoo every once in a while, due to the hair products I use. I suggest you wash your hair with shampoo once every two weeks; this will help get rid of any mousse , serum or product buildup you might still have in your hair. I like to use my trusty Victorya flat iron by ISA Professional to leave my hair sleek and I've noticed how much time I've saved in styling it since I started co-washing! No tangles or frizz to be seen, and my hair looks much healthier and shinier. I am now a firm believer of co-washing, my hair and hair color have never looked better! Let me know how co-washing has helped you in the comments! SaveSaveSave

Protect Your Health And Hair From UVA/UVB Rays

Hair and Sun Damage

By now, everyone knows that the sun can cause serious damage to our skin and health. Without proper protection, sun damage can lead to many undesirable outcomes such as wrinkles, sun spots, extreme dryness and the most serious of all, skin cancer. If you take good care of your skin, you make sure to stay away from being in direct sunlight for too long, wear a good amount of sunscreen when you go to the beach or outdoors, and stay away from tanning beds (I prefer a spray tan, myself). Did you also know that sun exposure can cause damage to your hair?

Sunlight harms your hair by oxidizing it, which leaves your hair brittle and damaged. It also acts as a natural highlight on your hair, which means quicker color fading. This is bad news for those of us who dye our hair, making trips to the salon more frequent. Your hair also has an aging process, just like the rest of your body. Constant exposure to the sun will allow the aging process to quicken, leaving you will thinner and less hair! So how can you protect your hair from the sun's strong rays?

Apply a UVA/UVB Protecting Hair Spray:

There are plenty of products that protect our locks from sun damage. These handy sprays are easily applied, leave no residue and acts as a shield against harmful rays. Most of them also smell great, which is a great bonus! A good tip to remember when choosing is to make sure it lists the amount of SPF it contains. Some products like to claim it protects your hair, when they don't. Stay on the safe side and stick to the ones who clearly have their SPF listed. The higher the SPF number, the greater the sun protection.

Avoid Going Outside During The Sun's Peak Hours:

The sun's harmful rays are strongest from 10am – 4pm. This step may be harder to follow due to your hectic life schedule but when you can, go out early or later in the day.

Wear Hats:

One of the more obvious ways is wearing a hat when going outdoors or to the beach. Although not everyone likes hats, it will protect your hair and give you some shade on your face as well. You can also protect your hair ends which are prone to easy breakage by styling your hair in a low bun.

Soak Hair In Oil Once a Week For Extra Care:

I like to give my hair a 100% argan oil soak after going to the beach or pool to give it the moisture it needs. After letting the oil soak for 10-30 minutes and rinsing it out, I use my trusty Victorya by ISA Professional flat iron . This leaves my hair looking shiny, straight and hydrated. I can definitely see the difference since I started paying attention to avoiding sun damage, always remember to do a deep oil soak once a week to keep your hair looking its best.
